This collared, snap front, stretch velvet top has been in the refashion pile for several years and I finally found a use for it- a top to wear for belly dance class. The original top was my size, so I left the sleeves as is and just cut the neckline/front/bottom per the pattern. I sewed in narrow, knit elastic to the neckline and bottom edges up to the seams at the front for the ties. The lengths of the elastic pieces are a few inches shorter than the garment edges, as suggested in the Singer Sewing Activewear book. The knit elastic seems to stretch more than braided elastic and next time I will try the braided. To finish the edges, I folded them over and stitched with a double needle.

Belly dancing! I didn't know you were into that. Great talent, if you can wiggle like that. I had a co-worker back in the 80's who did it. She learned from a redhead whose name I don't recall.

Thanks so much. I've only been taking classes for a few months, but it's fun!
